Human Remains Found At Palomar Mountain State Park, Not Believed Connected To Missing Oceanside Woman

OCEANSIDE, CA — Human remains were discovered Wednesday night at Palomar Mountain State Park, but police said they are not believed to be connected to the disappearance of Oceanside woman Angelica Brophy.

The remains were discovered around 7:30 p.m. near South Grade Road, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

The remains were not believed to be related to the investigation into Brophy's disappearance, according to the Oceanside Police Department.

"The Oceanside Police Department is aware of the discovery of human remains in the Palomar Mountain area," the department said in a news release. "At this time, the remains are not believed to be related to the missing person investigation involving Angelica Brophy."

Brophy, 44, was reported missing July 6. She was last seen that afternoon at Harrah's Resort Southern California in Valley Center before traveling to Palomar Mountain State Park, according to police.

Her unoccupied vehicle was found July 9 in the parking lot of the state park, prompting an extensive search involving Oceanside police, the Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team, California State Parks and other agencies. Multiple coordinated searches, including ground searches and searches of a nearby pond, failed to locate Brophy.

Oceanside police announced July 22 that coordinated search operations had been suspended, but said the investigation remained active. Detectives also conducted additional searches based on investigative leads, but Brophy was not found.

The Sheriff's Office was handling the human remains investigation.
