Sierra Fire Near Camp Pendleton Prompts Mandatory Evacuations

Camp Pendleton Fire Department reports fire is 925 acres, with no containment. Mandatory evacuations were lifted at 8:00pm Weds.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The Camp Pendleton Fire Department is working to contain a wildfire that has grown to almost 1,000 acres that initially prompted mandatory evacuation orders, that were lifted as of 8:00 pm Wednesday night.

The fire is east of the 33 Area on the base. The mandatory evacuations are for the following areas: 25 area (Lake O'Neill Camp Ground, Wounded Warrior Battalion), 26 area and 27 area. Evacuation Control Center is located at Paige Fieldhouse.

"The cause of the fire is unknown at this time," a base official said.

Base officials released a map outlining the fire's location on the military installation.
