Kitchen Fire Prompts Evacuations At Oceanside Apartment Complex

OCEANSIDE, CA — A kitchen fire prompted evacuations over the weekend at an apartment complex in Oceanside, authorities said.
The kitchen fire sparked shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday in an apartment at the Sunterra Apartment Complex on Sherbourne Drive, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.
Crews from the Oceanside and Vista fire departments quickly contained the blaze and prevented the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen area, officials said. Investigators said the cause of the fire appeared to be accidental, likely stemming from unattended cooking.

The apartment sustained smoke damage, primarily confined to the kitchen area, according to the department. Residents were temporarily evacuated for precautionary measures.
