At Least One Dead In I-5 Crash Near Camp Pendleton

OCEANSIDE, CA — At least one person was killed Saturday when a flatbed tow truck collided with a sedan on the San Diego (5) Freeway near the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, between San Clemente and Oceanside.

The crash occurred at 2:36 p.m. Saturday on the northbound San Diego Freeway at the Aliso Creek Rest Area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicles were reported next to the center divider, the CHP reported.

A person was pronounced at the scene, according to the CHP.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office was summoned. There was no indication that anyone was taken to a hospital by paramedics.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 3:02 p.m., shutting down northbound lanes 1 and 2. Lane 2 was reopened at 4:16 p.m. and all lanes were reopened at 5:57 p.m.
