Here are the top four stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The Oceanside Planning Commission will consider more high-density apartments on Monday with the city planning staff's recommendation for approval. The Breeze Luxury Apartments project was approved three years ago for 34 Oceanside townhomes that were never built. Now the developer is asking the city to approve 146 apartments for the same property located on a 2.67-acre site at the end of Ditmar and Nevada streets. The parcel is south of Oceanside Boulevard, behind the city's historic Oceanview Cemetery that opens onto South Coast Highway. It's a half-mile from the nearest Sprinter train station. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  2. MainStreet Oceanside invites the Oceanside community to the dedication of Downtown Oceanside's next public art mural. Free and open to all, a Community Mural Unveiling Celebration with artist Don Myers will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, outside the MainStreet Oceanside Office on Ditmar Street between Mission Avenue and Seagaze Drive. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  3. San Diegans now have a more traditional option when it comes to COVID-19 vaccines. The protein-based Novavax COVID-19 vaccine is widely available across the region. You can get Novavax at local healthcare providers, retail pharmacies and community clinics, as well as County public health centers and community vaccination events. You can now make an appointment or find a walk-in clinic here. While the Novavax vaccine is not showing up as available in some online appointment systems, all County of San Diego locations have it in stock for anyone who asks, regardless of which vaccine was selected during scheduling. (Press Release Desk)
  4. Amid California's historic drought, celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Kevin Hart are accused of being among the worst water wasters. The Las Virgenes Municipal Water District sent warning notices to more than 2,000 of its customers who have exceeded their monthly water budgets at least four times since the declaration of a drought emergency late last year, the Los Angeles Times reported. In addition to the Kardashian sisters and the comedian, actor Sylvester Stallone and retired basketball star Dwyane Wade and wife and actor Gabrielle Union also received letters, The Times reported. A reminder that in San Diego, landscape irrigation is limited to no more than three days per week before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. (Patch)
