Man Accused Of Kidnapping Teen He Met On Social Media: Sheriff

A man was arrested in Vista for allegedly kidnapping a teenage girl he met for sex, authorities said Monday.

VISTA, CA — A 32-year-old man was arrested in Vista for allegedly kidnapping a teenage girl he met for sex, authorities said Monday.

The 17-year-old girl was one of a group of juveniles who used a social media application to contact an older man who was looking to have sex with under-aged girls, said San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. David LaDieu.

"The group hoped to expose the male and turn over the information to law enforcement agencies for prosecution," he said.

Robert Dreyfus exchanged text messages with the group, who agreed to meet him at 1385 East Vista Way, LaDieu said.

"Dreyfus arrived and convinced the 17-year-old victim to get into his vehicle to talk," LaDieu said, adding that he immediately drove away without the girl's consent.

She sent a message to her group asking for help and the group called law enforcement, who then called Dreyfus on his cell phone, LaDieu said.

After driving several miles from the location where he met the girl, he pulled over near the 2000 block of East Vista Way, where the girl fled the vehicle.

Deputies detained Dreyfus and rescued the girl, he said.

Dreyfus was booked into the Vista Detention Facility for suspicion of kidnapping, sending harmful matter to a minor and communication with a minor for specific offenses, LaDieu said.

Bail was set at $175,000, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department's inmate information.
