Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- A pedestrian received critical injuries when he was struck by a vehicle, the Oceanside Police Department said Saturday. The 55-year-old man was hit at 8:14 p.m. Friday at North El Camino Real and Coco Palms Drive, according to Officer Jennifer Atenza of the OPD. "The driver of the vehicle stopped, attempted to aid the pedestrian, and remained at the scene to provide a statement to officers," the officer said. The OPD Major Accident Investigation Team was called in to investigate the accident. Impairment by alcohol or drugs was not suspected as a factor in the collision. (Times of San Diego)
- KOCT Television invites the community to its 15th Annual KOCT Outback Steakhouse Fundraiser on Thursday, May 12. Tickets are Available www.koct.org/fundraiser with discounts for members of the military. For $25 per person, participants can enjoy a Blooming Onion at every table along with choice of steak, pork chop or salmon as a main entree. - Conservative candidate for California's 49th Congressional District Lisa Bartlett raised $374,119 during her first reporting period as a congressional candidate. The reporting period covers donations from January 1 through March 31. Bartlett's impressive haul of $374,119 was $101,000 more than her nearest Republican opponent, Christopher Rodriguez, who raised $273,463. Perennial candidate and former Democrat Brian Maryott came in a distant third, raising only $207,290 with over $1,120,600 in debt after running for years. (OC Breeze)
- A man jumped off the Coronado Bridge Saturday and was killed, according to the California Highway Patrol. A man in a white pickup truck pulled to the right shoulder of the bridge's midspan area at 7:10 a.m., a CHP incident log reported. He climbed up on the eastbound state Route 75 right shoulder wall and apparently jumped in the water to his death. Harbor Police were called to the scene to retrieve the body and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office was also called, the CHP said. The victim's vehicle was moved off the bridge and traffic resumed. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin. (Times of San Diego)
