Man Arrested After 1 Killed, 1 Injured In Deadly North County Shooting

A Fallbrook resident was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

FALLBROOK, CA — A man was arrested after a shooting left one person dead and another seriously injured Monday night in North County, authorities said Tuesday.

Deputies responded around 8 p.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 3800 block of East Mission Road in Fallbrook, where they found two men with traumatic injuries, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Despite lifesaving efforts, one man died at the scene from a gunshot wound, sheriff's officials said. The second victim, who was also shot, was taken to a hospital and later released. Their identities were withheld.

Michael Burke, a Fallbrook resident, was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, according to the sheriff's office. Investigators said the violence followed an argument.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were investigating the circumstances and motive. Officials said the incident appeared to be isolated, and there was no known threat to the public.
