Man Struck, Killed By Train In Oceanside

The victim, whose age was not immediately available, died at the scene.

OCEANSIDE, CA – An Amtrak train struck and killed a man Thursday in Oceanside, authorities said.

The pedestrian was struck about 6:15 p.m. by a southbound train in the area of Morse Street and Broadway, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The victim, whose age was not immediately available, died at the scene, according to the sheriff's department.

"Amtrak Train 582 came into contact with a trespasser today ...," according to Kimberly Woods of Amtrak, who said there were "no reported injuries to passengers or crew members."

The train was traveling about 55 mph when the engineer spotted the man walking southbound along the tracks, the sheriff's department reported.

"The train went into emergency braking, but (it) struck the male as he remained near the tracks," according to a sheriff's department statement.

The fatality temporarily disrupted Coaster train service, prompting the use of a bus bridge to shuttle passengers, according to the North County Transit District.
