Marine Killed In Accident On Camp Pendleton

CAMP PENDLETON, CA – A 20-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was killed in an accident on base, base officials said Saturday.

Lance Cpl. Cody J. Haley, of Hardin, Iowa, who was assigned to 1st Marine Division, sustained fatal injuries Friday.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Haley dead at the site and base officials were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Haley deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in March of 2016. His awards include the National Defense Service medal, Global War on Terrorism Service medal, and the Sea Service Deployment ribbon, according to the USMC.

"We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of a member of the Marine Corps family, and we will do all we can to comfort the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased," the statement said.
