MiraCosta Alum Selected As New VP of Student Services

The appointment is effective July 1.

OCEANSIDE, CA: A new vice president of Student Services for MiraCosta College has been selected following a national search, President/Superintendent Sunita Cooke announced Tuesday.

Alketa Wojcik will assume the role effective July 1, succeeding retiring Vice President Richard Robertson — who has held the position for 29 years.

"I’m thrilled to be in this position because I came to MiraCosta as a student under the 'Making a Difference' program, so I took that to heart and have always looked for ways to make a difference in this institution that has a positive impact on our students,” said Wojcik.

"As a former student, it was here [MiraCosta College] that I found my passion in education. In this new position, having a role where I can help develop and improve our systems to increase student success is something I look forward to."

Wojcik started as a MiraCosta College international student two days after graduating from high school in Albania. She graduated with an associate degree and then went on to earn her bachelor's degree in business from California State University, San Marcos. She then completed her master’s degree in educational leadership from San Diego State University and her doctorate in educational leadership from UC San Diego/CSU San Marcos.

As vice president of Student Services, Wojcik will be responsible for MiraCosta College’s admissions and records, counseling, student equity, Disabled Students Programs and Services, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, financial aid, health services, intercollegiate and intramural athletics, the Service Learning Program, outreach, student activities and government, veterans’ services, student conduct, GEAR UP and more.

Wojcik has served MiraCosta College since 1995, when, as a student, she worked as a student ambassador. In 1999, she returned to MiraCosta as Student Services coordinator.

“It was like coming home,” she said.

In 2009, after serving four years as associate dean of Student Services at the San Elijo Campus in Encinitas, she went on to serve as the dean of Behavioral Sciences, History and Community Education, and as the site administrator for the Community Learning Center, where she worked tirelessly to ensure that MiraCosta students have the best possible college experience, school officials said.

Most recently, Wojcik co-chaired with faculty colleagues the Institutional Program Review Committee, Student Success Committee and the Achieving the Dream efforts. Additionally, her support has been invaluable in MiraCosta’s accreditation efforts, school officials said.

“Dr. Wojcik is known for her intellect, generous spirit, positive attitude, sense of humor, passion, commitment to MiraCosta and incredible work ethic,” said President/Superintendent Cooke. “She is a visionary leader who has a tremendous breadth and depth of knowledge. Her ability to connect with students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members has served her well in the variety of roles she has held. “

Wojcik met her husband when they were both students at MiraCosta College. She and her family have been longtime residents of North County San Diego, where they have also been active in the community.
