Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- How much rain did Tuesday's storm bring to Oceanside and how much more can we expect? Monday's warm weather turned into a much-needed downpour on Tuesday that brought just over a half inch of rain. But wait, there's more! An even bigger storm is set to hit just in time for New Year's Eve and it's followed by yet a third storm, taking us through the first week of the year. The drought-stricken region can well use the water and residents are advised to forgo any watering of yards for at least a couple of weeks. (NBC San Diego)
- Oceanside commuters will get to enjoy faster and more frequent Sprinter train service, thanks to $7 million in federal funding awarded to North County Transit District. The funding will launch the initial phase of NCTD's corridor modernization project. NCTD executive director Matthew O. Tucker said in a statement, "This funding to modernize train signals is a first step toward achieving 15-minute frequencies and reducing local traffic." (Patch)
- Oceanside skateboarders are among four North County youths joining the 2023 National Skateboarding team. The 16 athletes, announced by the U.S. governing body for skateboarding, are mostly from California, with others from Arizona, New Mexico and Florida. It will come as no surprise to locals that North County will comprise a quarter of the team, including Bryce Wettstein, 18, and Braden Hoban, 21, both from Encinitas. Representing Oceanside are Gavin Bottger, 15 and Ruby Lilley, who recently celebrated her 16th birthday. "I never thought I would go this path — it's like a dream come true," Lilley said. "Ever since I started skateboarding, it's been my dream to go to the Olympics." (Coast News)
