Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Visit Oceanside's new O'side Sips passport program guides visitors to nearly 30 craft breweries, microbreweries, wine-tasting rooms, craft coffee stops, tea shops, distilleries and more. Designed as a passport program, O'side Sips is free and web-based, with no need to download an app. Participants can scroll through a list of participating venues, plot their beverage routes on a map, access exclusive discounts and accumulate rewards points for checking in at O'side Sips locations. (Times of San Diego)
  2. An appeal by residents has failed to stop the opening of a new business that will store up to 1,100 gallons of oxidizing materials and nearly 20,000 gallons of corrosive liquids at an industrial building near Oceanside Boulevard and North Melrose Drive. The Oceanside City Council voted 3-2 to deny the appeal and uphold the Planning Commission's unanimous approval of a conditional use permit for ChemStation Pacific, LLC. The Oceanside business will supply biodegradable, water-based cleaning products in refillable containers, primarily to food production and distribution businesses such as bakeries and breweries. (San Diego Union-Tribune)
  3. San Diego weekend arts events: 'Music at the Museum' today at the Oceanside Museum of Art features a special music and lowrider festival, with music from Dezzy Hollow and street dance by Wild7s Freestyle Krew. Access to the museum is free, and the event centers on the "Oceanside Unfiltered" photography exhibition. Oceanside rapper Dezzy Hollow recently put out a new album, "One Nation Under the Funk," and you can check out the latest video, for "Roll Thru," which just dropped last week. (KPBS)
  4. Detectives on Thursday were investigating several explosions that were reported, including one on East Vista Way. Deputies responded to three locations in three hours following reports of explosions starting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The last one was reported at around 2:40 p.m., according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. No injuries or property damage was reported. (City News Service)
  5. A new California home loan program provides a lifeline to first-time homebuyers unable to save up a down payment. Buyers struggling to enter California's severely tight housing market can now get a helping hand in the form of a forgivable down payment loan with a zero percent interest rate. The state's new Forgivable Equity Builder Loan gives qualified buyers up to 10 percent of a home's purchase price, and they don't have to pay it back if they live in the home as their primary residence for five years. There is no cap on how much that 10 percent loan could be. It might sound too good to be true, but it's real. (San Diego Patch)
