Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. COASTER service from Oceanside to San Diego will be suspended this weekend for routine maintenance. The North County Transit District (NCTD) announced the closure earlier this week and recommended travelers look for alternate transportation, as NCTD will not be providing replacement bus service. The Breeze bus route 101 is the advised option for locals heading south. NCTD officials also warned, "Some residents living near portions of the rail line, may hear heavy equipment noise and be subject to bright light over the duration of the work." (FOX 5 San Diego)
  2. The Sheriff's Homicide Unit is asking for the public's help after finding a man dead on West Vista Way just after midnight on Thursday. The man's identity and exact cause of death have not been determined but witnesses claim to have heard what sounded like fireworks. "When deputies arrived on the scene, a man believed to be 35 to 40 years old was found dead with trauma to his upper torso, according to the department." (Patch)
  3. Calling all Oceanside authors! MainStreet Oceanside and the Oceanside Public Library have teamed up for Authors Night at the Sunset Market on Thursday, Jan. 26. Join local writers from a variety of literary genres who will be signing and selling their books at the market. Live entertainment will accompany all the international eats and local artisans displaying their wares. (MainStreet Oceanside)
  4. The rain may have subsided but the after-effects are still cause for concern. Just a few of the issues include wet and muddy roads, landslides, sinkholes and flooding. Along the coast, the problems are worse with high wind and surf advisories and stormwater runoff that can carry "bacteria, chemicals, debris trash and other health hazards." The public is asked to stay alert and stay safe. (Patch)
