Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. KOCT, The Oceanside Channel, recently interviewed each of the candidates running for the 49th Congressional District for the North County Roundtable Election 2022 Edition featuring hosts Kent Davy and Alison St. John. In the first episode, host Keny Davy interviews 49th Congressional District Candidate Lisa Bartlett. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. Colleen Foster of Oceanside's Solid Waste & Recycling department discusses the significant challenges in implementing a law to reduce the state's landfills and how the city is using innovative ways to reduce food waste. (Sacramento News & Review)
  3. Oceanside Unified School District's latest budget report saw improvements in revenues and attendance numbers, however, a lot of uncertainty remains about the district's financial future with declining enrollment. (Coast News)
  4. A closer look at San Diego's Homeless Census Results shows the North County Coastal area had the largest percentage increase in unsheltered population, though from a considerably lower starting point than the city of San Diego. Nonetheless, its unsheltered population is now the second-largest in the county, at least as of late February when the Task Force conducted its census, surpassing both the North County Inland and East County areas since the last unsheltered count, just before the pandemic in 2020. (San Diego Patch)
  5. A Queen Anne cottage featured prominently in the 1986 film "Top Gun" has been freshly restored just in time for the May 24 release of "Top Gun: Maverick." Built in 1887, the Graves House is one of the oldest homes in Oceanside, and it now has a new life as the High Pie at the Top Gun House, a dessert-driven eatery at Mission Pacific Hotel. What inspired the High Pie name is Lazar's signature "high pie" dish: a fried fruit-filled hand pie topped with mascarpone ice cream. (Architectural Digest)
