Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- A North County man died after being struck by a driver who fled the scene on Sunday night. The Oceanside area office of the California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help to identify the vehicle and driver of the fatal hit-and-run crash in the Fallbrook area. The pedestrian, a 21- year-old resident of Fallbrook, was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP is looking for a blue sedan, possibly a Honda Accord, with damage to the front windshield from the collision. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about this incident should contact the CHP. (Patch)
- Oceanside welcomed several new restaurants in January which are highlighted in the recent economic news from the city. Heritage Barbecue opened in South Oceanside and is serving up Southern California craft barbecue and beer. Ignite Coffee Company is serving coffee and pastries downtown, not far from the new 1022 Cafe & Gelateria that is offering homemade artisan gelato plus coffee and pastries. Pita Guys is now open in the Del Oro Marketplace shopping center and serves family-style Middle Eastern food. Angry Chickz also recently re-opened in downtown. - Oceanside's newest hippie is 71-year-old Stacey Smith-Bacon. If you've been longing for more color in your life, then Stacey's "Fit To Be Tied" company may be your answer to the winter blues. Grab your girlfriends and break out your peace sign for the ultimate tie-dye party. Stacey teaches tie-dye to anyone willing to learn. "I am a recovering graphic designer," she said. "I am the party; I bring the party. And if you want to serve wine or want to serve tequila, bring your girlfriends and we'll have a good time." Stacey's tie-dye parties and classes cost $35 per person. (CBS8 News)
