Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- The outdated 100-year-old San Luis Rey River Bridge in Oceanside is finally on track to getting replaced. "Democratic Congressman Mike Levin along with San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) Chair Catherine Blakespear and Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez provided an update Tuesday on a plan to replace the bridge. The San Diego Association of Governments will receive $27.3 million from a Department of Transportation program using funds from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The federal funding will also facilitate improvements to the adjacent bike path, a pedestrian underpass, a Quiet Zone crossing, and more improvements." (CBS News 8)
- Kite Pharma is bringing a new manufacturing facility to Oceanside. "The cancer-focused, CAR-T cell therapy player made the announcement, saying that the FDA gave the green light to Kite's 100,000-square-foot, retroviral vector manufacturing facility," according to Kite's global head of technical operations Chris McDonald. (Endpoints News)
- Oceanside surfer Caity Simmers is considered "one of the best young surfers on the planet." "Caity Simmers is at the forefront of a generational movement of female surfers set to change the face of competition. Airs, barrel riding, rail work, this Oceanside, California native has it all, and a style to go with it unlike any we've seen in recent years on the Championship Tour. But Caity's head is in the right place. She was raised by two awesome parents, Ali and Jesse, and surfs for all the right reasons. After qualifying for the CT in 2022, she turned down the opportunity to travel the world so she could just be a kid." (TheInertia.com)
- Did you get your voter pamphlet yet, Oceanside? "Voter information pamphlets have been sent to registered voters in San Diego County ahead of the November general election, the San Diego Registrar of Voters announced. Pamphlets were sent to 1.9 million registered voters in the county. Voters should receive the pamphlets by Oct. 7, according to the Registrar of Voters. The pamphlets contain important Nov. 8 general election information such as candidate statements, election deadlines, voting options and more. It also includes a sample of the official ballot. Ballots will begin going out in the mail to registered voters on Oct. 8, according to the Registrar of Voters. They can be returned by mail, via a ballot drop box location or at a vote center."
