Oceanside Advances Two Major Projects to Reduce Homelessness
The City of Oceanside recently approved a 50-Bed Homeless Shelter and 59 Permanent Supportive Housing Units to diminish homelessness.
OCEANSIDE, CA — The City of Oceanside is moving forward with plans to diminish homelessness in the area with two major projects.
The first project was approved at the June 16, 2021, City Council meeting for 59 permanent supportive housing units for homeless Oceanside residents. The second project was approved at the June 30, 2021 workshop, for a 50-Bed homeless shelter located at the site of the Ocean Shores High School that closed in 2019. Both locations would be located on or near Oceanside Blvd.

On June 16, 2021, the City Council committed $3.5 million and 59 section 8 housing vouchers towards a 60-unit affordable housing development to be built on the west side of Greenbrier Drive between Apple Street and Oceanside Boulevard. The project will also include $6 million in state funds, along with private sector funding.
50 studio apartments and nine 1-bedroom apartments will provide permanent supportive housing for homeless Oceanside residents. Five of the units will be specifically for Veterans. 29 of the units will be set aside for adults with disabilities. Nine 1-bedroom apartments will house extremely low-income Oceanside families and residents at risk of homelessness. One unit will house an on-site manager.

The residents will be provided with and assertively encouraged to take advantage of on-site supportive services for physical and mental healthcare, Veterans' programs and other needed services. Construction of the complex is expected to start in late 2022 and be completed by late 2024. More information
50-Bed Homeless Shelter for Oceanside Residents Coming
At its June 30, 2021 workshop, the City Council received presentations by two potential operators for a future homeless shelter to be located at 3131 Oceanside Boulevard and selected San Diego Rescue Mission as the shelter operator.
The shelter will operate on a referral system by OPD's Homeless Outreach Teams, the Oceanside Housing Authority, and other service providers. The facility will include wrap-around services and daytime activities to help people develop a housing plan and assess needed services.
The 50-bed shelter will serve men, women, and families. On-site services will include case management, meals, showers, basic needs, counseling, computer lab, laundry facility, legal services, bus passes, etc. The shelter is intended to provide a pathway towards permanent housing, income, healthcare, and stability through continued care services.
