Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Oceanside Adventures was recognized this week by local officials and the business community to commemorate the seven-year anniversary of the whale watching company. Fernando Hernández, field representative for the Office of Assemblywoman Tasha Boerner Horvath presented Oceanside Adventures with a certificate at a small ceremony aboard the company's luxury catamaran.   2. The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in San Diego County increased by one to 364, according to the latest state data out Saturday. ICU patients with COVID were down two from the previous day's total to 43. There were 39 more hospital beds available, totaling 236. The county is seeing spikes in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations, prompting local public health officials to encourage residents to be more vigilant. (San Diego Patch)

  4. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped for the 24th consecutive day Saturday, falling 2.7 cents to $6.09. The average price has decreased 28.3 cents during the streak, including 3.7 cents Friday, its largest one-day decrease since at least 2019, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The streak of decreases follows a run of 19 increases in 20 days totaling 35.5 cents. The average price is 12.9 cents less than one week ago and 23.6 cents lower than one month ago, but $1.798 more than one year ago. (San Diego Patch)
  5. The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City has issued a travel alert for Tijuana and Rosarito because of possible fighting between criminal groups and Mexican security forces. The embassy said the concern stems from the July 2 arrest of a prominent cartel leader. "U.S. citizens should expect to encounter increased Mexican law enforcement presence in those areas," the embassy said. "Criminal organization assassinations and territorial disputes can result in bystanders being injured or killed." (Times of San Diego)
