Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. Sheriff's found 240,000 counterfeit pills during a traffic stop near Camp Pendleton on Friday thanks to an alert drug-sniffing dog. "The vehicle's driver, Alberto Jose Partida of Tijuana, Mexico appeared nervous and provided deceptive answers to the detective. A Sheriff's canine, Milo, conducted a sniff of the vehicle and alerted them to the odor of narcotics. During the subsequent search, 32 packages of counterfeit Oxycodone pills were found in the car's fuel tank." (Times of San Diego)
  2. Visit Oceanside launched a new rewards program for locals that will be available until March 2023 or while supplies last. The O'side O'centives program is open to San Diego County residents who can earn a $25 gift card by spending $200 at Oceanside hotels or $100 at Oceanside restaurants or attractions Sunday through Thursday. Residents can bring an itemized receipt showing their purchase at a qualifying Oceanside business along with a valid ID showing a San Diego zip code to the California Welcome Center Oceanside Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm to pick up their $25 Visa gift card! (Visit Oceanside)
  3. A new housing project to be built along the Sprinter rail line in Oceanside was approved last week when the City Council denied an appeal. Most of the opponents were residents of the nearby Fire Mountain area, who said the mixed-use development would add to the traffic. The development, called Ocean Creek, will have 265 market-rate apartments and 30 income-restricted apartments in five four-story apartment buildings on 18.9 acres at the southwest corner of Crouch and Skylark near Oceanside Boulevard east of I-5.
