Here are the top four stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. The Carte Blanche Bistro & Bar in downtown Oceanside is set to close this fall after challenges with pandemic and family health issues. The family-owned, French-inspired Mexican restaurant opened just before the pandemic arrived in 2020. "Owned by the Ross Family of All Family Hospitality, Carte Blanche, the final closing date is pending negotiations with a new restaurant lessee. The 4,200-square-foot, 180-seat restaurant is in Oceanside's SALT luxury apartment complex at 399 N. Cleveland St." (pacificsandiego.com)
  2. Oceanside is beloved among locals fortunate enough to call it home. So, it comes as no surprise to find that our fair city is on the list of the 7 Best Fall Travel Destinations for 2022, according to hotel expert Brandon Berkson, who puts Oceanside in stellar company with cities like Bangkok, Amsterdam, and our neighbor to the north, Portland, Oregon. Here's what Berkson had to say about Oside: "The SoCal beach town you need to have on your radar. It's approachable and economical yet burgeoning and trendy. The past five to seven years have seen the city go through a renaissance: more cute boutique hotels, inviting cocktail bars and farm-to-table restaurants seem to debut each day." (InsideHook)
  3. A new report shows that food insecurity in San Diego County is more prevalent than it was pre-pandemic, with more than a quarter of county residents facing nutritional insecurity. "The report released by the San Diego Hunger Coalition analyzes data from March of this year on economic conditions to assess the needs of the people of San Diego County. It found that the county's hunger relief sector is meeting about 75% of the need, and an additional 11.9 million meals per month would be needed to achieve a nutrition-secure San Diego, where everyone has access to enough healthy food. The authors define the nutrition-insecure population as people with incomes less than 200% of the federal poverty line." (Patch)
  4. It's been a banner couple of years for homeowners in Oceanside, as home prices continued their steady rise. But for the second month in a row, San Diego region home prices fell in July. Rising interest rates and a possible recession have contributed to the decline. "According to the authoritative Case-Shiller Index, prices in the region fell by 2.5% from June to July following a 0.7% dip from May to June. Only San Francisco and Seattle recorded bigger drops, at 3.5% and 3.1% respectively, but the average decline across the 20 largest metropolitan areas was 0.8% ... Zillow Senior Economist Nicole Bachaud said there is a 'rebalancing of power in the housing market' that favors affluent buyers." (Patch)
