Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. Reynolds Elementary school in Oceanside may have to close down because it's at risk of sinking. Engineers brought in to conduct tests as part of a plan to remodel the school found that the soil underneath the school is unstable. The Oceanside Unified School District plans to recommend that the Board of Education close Reynolds Elementary out of concern for the safety of students and staff. "Upon closure, the district says students will be transferred to nearby campuses that keep them within a required 2-mile radius from their homes and all staff at Reynolds will be transferred to other schools in OUSD." (Fox 5 San Diego)
  2. Congrats to Wendy Stewart, the MiraCosta College Dean of Counseling and Student Development, for being selected as the February Constituent of the Month by U.S. Rep. Mike Levin. Stewart has spent 25 years as an educator in San Diego county and was MiraCosta's first chief inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility officer. "Throughout her career, Dr. Stewart has been a fierce student advocate who has helped students access higher education and achieve their goals," Levin said. (North Coast Current)
  3. Oceanside is jam-packed with events in March that you won't want to miss. Venture outdoors to the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch, catch the WSA Surfing Championship or "Oceanside Night" at the San Diego Sockers. Keep warm indoors and see a performance of Lucky Stiff at The Brooks Theatre or the Exhibition Celebration at the Oceanside Museum of Art. (Visit Oceanside)
