Plans for the donation of the 282,000-pound train engine to the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association in the southeastern San Diego County community began nearly five years ago and is intended to preserve some of the history of locomotion in the region. "The F40 locomotives are an important part of the history of both the Coaster and the San Diego region," said Graham Blackwell, chief rail operations officer for NCTD. "Operating from the start of the service in 1995, the F40s moved millions of passengers in their 25-plus years in operation along the beautiful coastal network, connecting North County to San Diego." - Another heat wave is on its way throughout our region. After a brief bout of cool weather, triple-digit temperatures are returning on the heels of the record-smashing swelter that withered our area at the start of September. Temperatures will begin rising in the Oceanside area all weekend and last through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. In San Diego County, forecasters said the heat will peak Monday and Tuesday. Inland Empire temperatures are expected to get above 100 degrees and inland Orange County and San Diego could reach the mid-to upper 90s. (Patch)

"The Fighting Third," was activated at Camp Elliot in San Diego on Sept. 16, 1942. "We are honored to recognize and celebrate the anniversary of 3rd Marine Division and the service and sacrifice of the Marines and Sailors who have stood in these ranks and – war by war, battle by battle, and day by day – built the great legacy of fidelity, honor, and valor that we stand on today," said Maj.
