Oceanside Carjacking Prompts Police Chase That Ends 80 Miles Away
Officials tell Patch it all started with an armed carjacking in Oceanside.
OCEANSIDE, CA — A police chase that started in Oceanside ended in Riverside County Sunday afternoon, approximately 80 miles from where it started after an armed carjacking, officials tell Patch.
It wasn't immediately clear what time the chase started, but it ended at 3:56 p.m. along the eastbound side of I-10 near Oak Valley Parkway after a local CHP officer deployed a spike strip to end the chase that spanned San Diego, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, according to CHP Officer Darren Meyer.
"One of our officers put out a spike strip and the right side tires [of the vehicle] blew out," Meyer told Patch. "The driver got off [the freeway] and gave up."

The alleged carjacker, who was not immediately identified, was taken into custody without incident, he said.
As of 5 p.m., the Oak Valley Parkway offramp remained closed to traffic as the CHP waited for Oceanside police to arrive and take the suspect and vehicle into their possession, Meyer said.
