Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- Gas prices are continuing to fall nationwide, with the average national price for a gallon of gas was $4.605 on Thursday. Meanwhile, California recorded an average of $5.991 per gallon, outpacing any other state. In San Diego County, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $5.975. The cheapest gas in Oceanside on Thursday could be found at Mohsen (3213 Mission Ave and 628 S Coast Hwy) for $5.25 a gallon, according to GasBuddy. (San Diego Patch)
- An injured Marine and his family are getting a new smart home thanks to the Gary Sinise Foundation. Marine Staff Sgt. Stuart DiPaolo had served in Iraq and Afghanistan, but he was critically injured during a 2015 training exercise at Camp Pendleton. On Thursday, the house in Vista was dedicated with a ceremony, complete with the Patriot Guard. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
- A former Camp Pendleton Marine who drove drunk and caused a wrong-way crash that killed a motorcyclist on a rural Bonsall-area road has been convicted of second-degree murder in his second trial regarding the fatal crash. Adam Daniel Barooshian, 29, was convicted in a retrial for the New Year's Day 2019 crash that killed 29-year-old Christopher Williams of Oceanside. (Patch)
- Oceanside-based biotech company, Gilead Sciences has closed a deal for 27 acres of undeveloped land near its existing facility in Oceanside. Joydeep Ganguly, Gilead's senior vice president of corporate operations, said in a statement that it will use the land to stand up additional manufacturing in the area. The company's current Oceanside outfit supports clinical manufacturing and process development for Gilead and Kite Pharma, the exec said. (Fierce Pharma)
- OC Fair 2022 starts Friday: What To Know. For monster trucks, good eats and a fair experience under the sun, residents can purchase OC Fair tickets online. Last year, the fair sold out 17 of its 23 days. There are no fees for buying tickets online in advance. Another feature visitors can expect this year are the same prices. The fair's admission price of $12 daily and $14 on weekends with kids and seniors getting in for $7 has been the same since 2018. (Orange County Patch)
