Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. Parents, students and community members packed the special meeting of Oceanside Unified School District board on Monday night to discuss the fate of Reynolds Elementary School. Despite numerous objections, the board voted to close the school at the end of the school year, citing safety concerns. Experts say the ground underneath the buildings has soil liquefaction, which means they are unsafe during an earthquake. "The school board will meet again on March 23 to discuss the plans of how and where the students at Reynolds will be moved." (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
  2. Oceanside is one of the top cities that narrowed the gender wage gap in recent years. While the average gender wage gap in the U.S. hasn't changed much, that's different in Oceanside. Between 2017 and 2021, the wage gap in Oceanside decreased by 23.22%, according to a study released Tuesday by SmartAsset in recognition of Equal Pay Day. The national average narrowed by less than one percent, with women only earning 83 cents for every dollar earned by a man in 2021. But in Oceanside, women's earnings are nearly equal to men's earnings, with less than a 1% difference between the two. (Yahoo News)
  3. A new manufacturing facility being developed by biotech company Genentech will add around 150 jobs to its existing operations in Oceanside. The next-generation biologics manufacturing facility will be one of the most advanced commercial-scale biotech production facilities in the world. The project is part of $450 million in improvements that Genentech is making to its Oceanside campus, which currently includes seven buildings on 60 acres. (Pharmaceutical Technology)
