Oceanside Critical Blood Shortage + Carlsbad Opposes Sand Plan + Earthquake

Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:
- How To Give Blood In Oceanside Amid 'Critical' Shortage. The Red Cross and NFL have teamed up to offer those who come to give a chance to win a trip to Super Bowl LVI. Find Oceanside locations to donate blood. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
- Did you feel it? An earthquake was felt across San Diego county. USGS reported a 3.9 magnitude earthquake near Anza Borrego and multiple other smaller shakes on Wednesday evening. People posted online that they felt it all across Southern California — from Santee to Escondido and all the way to the coastline of Oceanside. (CBS News 8)
- The Carlsbad City Council approved a resolution opposing the City of Oceanside's plan to construct four groins and a sand bypass system designed to minimize sand loss at the city's beaches. Oceanside has been struggling with beach erosion for nearly 80 years following the construction of Camp Pendleton's harbor in 1942, and sand nourishment projects alone have not been helping to keep sand on the beach. - A Tesla driver says a highway trip turned scary when he found himself face to face with what appeared to be a gun. The incident occurred when the driver turned onto the Manchester Avenue on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP's Oceanside office. (10News)
- Local doctors address COVID-19 misinformation. An independent panel of local doctors today participated in a virtual event that addressed COVID-19 misinformation brought up by members of the public at the Jan. 11 County Board of Supervisors meeting. San Diego County became the first jurisdiction in the nation to declare health misinformation a public health crisis. The County has also launched a website to debunk common false claims about COVID-19 and educate people on where to find credible medical information sources. (County News Center)
