- Spring is here, ushering in the annual season of Easter festivities and spring festivals throughout San Diego County. Peruse our annual Patch guide to Easter fun, bunny brunches and egg hunts, along with springtime gardening events and outdoor fests. (San Diego Patch)
- When Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez learned about National Beer Day, she hopped on the opportunity to celebrate the city's breweries. Sanchez recognized the entrepreneurs last week in celebration of the day. "This is one of our really significant contributors to our local economy," Sanchez said as she issued a proclamation honoring the breweries at the start of the City Council meeting on April 6. - April is National Minority Health Month, and the American Red Cross is raising awareness about health disparities that disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minority populations. Anyone who donates blood or platelets through April 18 will receive a Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last. Those who give April 19-May 19 will receive a $10 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice and will be automatically entered to win a new travel trailer camper. (San Diego Patch)
- USA Skateboarding announces 2022 National Team. The team of sixteen, includes eight park skaters and eight street skaters. "It feels amazing to be named to the national team again and make it on this list with all these heavy hitters and exchange that energy with all these great dudes" said Dashawn Jordan of North Hollywood. More than half the team lives in California, including Nyjah Huston, the top ranked skater in the world. The team will have three new members, including 15 year old park skater, Gavin Bottger from Oceanside. (NBC Southern California)
- A 38-year-old man died in custody on Monday, marking the seventh death of an inmate in San Diego County jail system this year, according to multiple reports. The man, who was not identified, was examined by medical staff at the San Diego Central Jail around 11 a.m. after experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
