📢 The Oceanside Chamber will hold its 14th Annual North County Health & Wellness Fair on August 11 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The North County Health Fair is free to the public and a great way to receive information, meet a new health specialist or learn more about healthy living. Here are the top five stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. Drop by the Oceanside Farmers Market Thursday for the 30th Anniversary Celebration. Starting at 9 a.m. on Aug. 11, stop by the Farmers Market Information Booth on Pier View Way east of North Coast Highway to receive a free market tote and find out more about the Power Saver Rewards program that allows you to earn credits on your electric bill. Each reusable fabric tote will include a Cheryl's Caramel, Chrystal's Pure Honey Stick, Color the Sea coloring book and more. Plus one tote will have a certificate inside for a special market anniversary prize: a handmade basket by Benjamin's Baskets filled with market goods.   2. U.S. Marine Corps Gen. Michael E. Langley was promoted to the rank of general on Aug. 6 in a ceremony at Marine Corps Barracks Washington. Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. David Berger promoted Langley, who became the first Black Marine to be promoted to general. Langley has served in the Marine Corps for 37 years and saw his promotion as a sign to others that Marine Corps service rewards those who work hard to achieve their goals. (Press Release Desk)
  3. The County Department of Animal Services currently has hundreds of dogs, cats, rabbits and other companion animals waiting to be adopted at no fee this month. County Animal Services is part of Clear the Shelters, a month-long national effort to find caring homes for animals in shelters. All animals will be spayed or neutered, have vaccinations, a microchip and a one-year license for dogs in the service area. (Press Release Desk)
  4. Authorities have identified a man found dead last week in a pond in eastern San Diego County. A welfare check on a body was requested shortly before 3:30 a.m. Aug. 1 in the area of Moreno Drive and Willow Road in Lakeside, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The department's Search and Rescue Dive Team found and recovered a body from the lake. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 50-year-old Thomas Moreno, the sheriff's department announced Monday. (San Diego Patch)
  5. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped Monday for the 54th consecutive day since rising to a record, decreasing 1 cent to $5.427, its lowest amount since March 7. The average price has decreased 94.6 cents since rising to a record $6.373 on June 15, including 1.8 cents Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The national average price dropped for the 55th consecutive day, decreasing 1 cent to $4.059. It has dropped 95.7 cents since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14. The average in Oceanside has decreased even more with prices as low as $4.85 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. (San Diego Patch)
