OCEANSIDE, CA — Bringing a taste of Boston to Oceanside, Christine and Danny of Feraco’s make a tasty, wide variety of creamy-filled Cannoli treats. Cannoli are Italian pastries consisting of tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing ricotta.

Some food historians place the origins of cannoli in 827–1091 AD in Caltanissetta in Sicily, by the concubines of princes looking to capture their attention

Italian immigrants brought the Cannoli to America during the early 1900s. Due to the limited availability of certain ingredients, like sheep’s milk ricotta, mascarpone was used instead. Today, there are many variations to the traditional cannoli recipe.
