OCEANSIDE, CA — The City of Oceanside announced on Twitter that the Oceanside Fire Department and Lifeguards recently acquired two advanced drones with Measure X revenue.

Lifeguards are training to use the drone to drop life vests to people far offshore, awaiting rescue (see video below). The Fire Department has been using their thermal/infrared-equipped drone to identify hotspots and see through smoke to direct crew members and improve efficiency and safety

Measure X is the 1/2 cent sales tax measure passed in 2018 by Oceanside voters. The revenue from the 1/2 cent goes specifically to public safety, road repairs, improved infrastructure, and addressing homelessness in Oceanside. Get the latest Measure X Project Updates
