Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Getting around Downtown Oceanside during the summer is about to get a little easier with the rollout of the gO'side Free Electric Shuttle Pilot Program. The EV shuttle program will officially begin operations on Monday, June 13 in Downtown Oceanside. The "gO'side" five-passenger electric shuttles will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Shuttles can be hailed via the "Ride Circuit" smartphone app and choosing "Oceanside" as the location, or by flagging down a shuttle in an area that is safe to stop for passenger boarding. The service will be free initially. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. New numbers were released for the 74th District State Assembly race that now stretches from lower Orange County south to Camp Pendleton, Vista and Oceanside. Incumbent Laguna Niguel Republican Laurie Davies faces San Clemente Mayor Chris Duncan, a Democrat, in the redrawn district. Davies had 51 percent and Duncan had 49 percent in the first set of ballot releases, and Davies increased to 53 percent with Thursday's results for the two-county district. (Encinitas Advocate)
  3. Feeding San Diego has partnered with San Diego County Library branches to host food distributions this summer. Starting this month, 10 new sites will be in operation at various locations throughout the county, from Valley Center to Spring Valley to Oceanside. With record-high gas prices and inflation, the non-profit is anticipating the additional need for food assistance this summer. (Times of San Diego)
  4. Patch has rounded up fun, interesting and entertaining events throughout Southern California — from the southernmost part of San Diego, through Orange and Riverside counties, to the beaches and valleys in Los Angeles. Some are free. Some have a fee. Whether you opt for an activity close to home or a mini day trip, see what's slated today through Sunday, June 12. (Patch)
  5. A CalMatters investigation found that oversight was scarce as billions in COVID aid poured into California schools. From laptops to shade structures to an ice cream truck, schools had wildly different approaches to stimulus spending. No centralized database exists to show the public exactly where the money went.
