Here are the top four stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Oceanside, Vista and San Diego are getting grants from a $10 million county fund to address homelessness. Nathan Fletcher, chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, said more than half the county's fund remains available following the total of $4.3 million awarded to the three cities Tuesday. Oceanside received the largest sum, $3,258,021, to create a Homeless Navigation Center. According to the city, a 50-bed shelter will be open 24 hours a day and operated by the San Diego Rescue Mission with a scheduled opening date of December 2022. The site will have "trauma-informed healthcare care services, public benefits and connections to permanent supportive housing." (Patch)
  2. The concept of Naegi, the fast, casual Japanese eatery in Oceanside began as a pop-up and popular food truck. On September 7 in South O', that concept evolved into a sit-down restaurant with its main focus on karaage sandwiches. All of the tasty recipes on the menu are original and created by Chef William Eick. The menu features three delicious signature sandos that are available year-round: Karaage Sando (karaage chicken, Togarashi mayo, cabbage), Tofu Karaage (mustard, BBQ sauce, cabbage) and the fabulous Ebi Filet-O (Thousand Island dressing, cabbage). (Coast News)
  3. Seniors at the Pilgrim Creek Estates mobile home community in Oceanside were shocked when their fire insurance went up 800%. Now they are receiving help since their story went public. HOA board member Katy Drexler said they've received calls from those inquiring about a bid. "We've got several agents and brokers who have contacted the office." said Drexler. She retired from the insurance industry so she knows a bit about coverage but said when American Alternative Insurance dropped them because they are in a so-called high fire risk, they put out 30 bids and the cheapest annual premium they could find went from $20,000 to $160,000. "What does California do when nobody will insure associations or even individual homes within the state because of the fire risk?" asked Drexler. (CBS News 8)
  4. California is getting $384 million from the federal government to help install 1.2 million EV chargers along 6,600 miles of highways by 2030. California has the green light to use federal infrastructure funds to help install over a million electric vehicle charging stations following federal approval of a joint plan by Caltrans and California Energy Commission. California Energy Commission Commissioner Patty Monahan said, "This new network will increase charging access, particularly in the rural areas of our state and help EV drivers charge up on long trips," she said. The state's plan focuses on construction of fast-charging stations near interstates, U.S. highways and state routes throughout California. A dashboard on the state's progress is available online.
