  1. The annual dredge of the Oceanside Harbor has begun and residents are urged to use caution on the beach and around the pipe and vehicles. The entire dredge cycle is anticipated to last 6 to 8 weeks, with a completion date no later than the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. The average amount of sand dredged from the inlet and placed onto Oceanside beaches is between 200,000 and 250,000 cubic yards. Oceanside Adventures captured this video of the H.R.   2. After accounting for higher inflation costs and more city employees across several departments, the city of Oceanside is projecting a $2.4 million surplus at the end of the fiscal year, according to an April 13 staff report. The city's proposed revenue for the Fiscal Year 2022-23 is $189.19 million with $186.06 million in expenses and a transfer of $1.09 million to capital improvement projects, leaving a surplus of $2.4 million. The city's revenue comes from a projected $79.79 million in property tax, $27.55 in sales tax and $8.8 million from transient occupancy tax. (Coast News)
  3. Oceanside-based nonprofit Shelter to Soldier is putting on its 3rd Annual "Saving Lives, One Swing at a Time" golf tournament noon April 29 at Singing Hills Golf Resort at Sycuan in El Cajon. The nonprofit adopts dogs from rescues and shelters and trains them to provide veterans with an alternative method of coping with post-combat traumas. This year's fundraising goal for the golf tournament is $85,000. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  4. A man was arrested Tuesday after reportedly kidnapping a woman in Oceanside Monday afternoon. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the incident began on Monday around 11 p.m. when an acquaintance took a woman against her will from the 3800 block of Vista Way in Oceanside and drove around North County. The department said the man took the woman's cell phone, refused to let her out of the car, and threatened to kill her. "The following day around 6:30 p.m., the woman was able to find a second phone and call a friend who alerted the Sheriff's Department," authorities said. (ABC 10News San Diego)
  5. A newly improved sea turtle habitat has reopened at SeaWorld San Diego. Turtle Reef was closed in October 2021 for enhancements and upgrades. The habitat is home to endangered hawksbill sea turtles and threatened green and loggerhead sea turtles. Sea turtles are among more than 250 different species of animals that receive care and expertise at SeaWorld San Diego. (San Diego Patch)
