Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. San Diego Restaurant Week returns April 3 with locations offering 2-course lunch options for $10, $15, $20, and $25 & 3-course dinners for $20, $30, $40, $50, and $60 dependent on the restaurant's price points. The participating restaurants span across the county from the South Bay to East County and to the borders of Oceanside and Fallbrook to the north. (CBS News 8)
  2. Hundreds of Fire Mountain residents are objecting to a proposed residential development along Whaley Street that will add eight new four-bedroom, two-story homes each equipped with a junior accessory dwelling unit. The project proposes to build eight new single-family homes and maintain four existing homes on a 2.15-acre parcel on the north side of Whaley Street between Kurtz and Hunsaker streets. The plan would divide the entire parcel into 12 separate residential lots ranging between 4,158 to 9,093 square feet. (The Coast News)
  3. State and local rent relief programs have approved $2.2 billion in back rent for almost 200,000 Southern California tenants in an "unparalleled" program that's about to expire, program numbers show. More than $1.6 billion went to tenants and landlords in Los Angeles County over the past year. An additional $309 million went to Orange County residents and nearly $247 million went to residents in the Inland Empire. "These efforts are unparalleled in our state's history, with the state program distributing assistance at a pace and scale that is unrivaled across the country," state Housing and Community Development Director Gustavo Velasquez said in a letter to lawmakers on Friday, March 25. (OC Register)
  4. The 2022 California gubernatorial race is officially on, and the list of candidates is most notable for who isn't included. Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber released the certified slate of 26 candidates Thursday, and it's notably void of known contenders to challenge Newsom's re-election bid. The list includes a poet, a farmer, a psychologist, activists and even a children's author. There are no celebrities in the running. The only other professional politician in the running is California State Senator Brian Dahle of the First District serving the Alpine area. (San Diego Patch)
  5. Oceanside Harbor and Beaches Advisory Committee met on March 21 to hear a revised version of the harbor's proposed safety plan. After two hours, they ultimately voted to send staff back to the board until the committee's June meeting. The current safety plan is a police-based model implemented in 2009. It has eight officers and one sergeant providing 24-hour coverage of the harbor. (The Log)
