Hey, Oceansiders! Here's your Thursday issue of the Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 66 Low: 44. It's looking really nice out there!

Here are the top five stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Oceanside Police are conducting a homicide investigation after finding a 27-year old man with a single gunshot wound lying in the roadway on Brooks Street. Officers rendered medical aid but the patient was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. Hold onto your masks. The Golden State extended its indoor mask mandate until February 15 as cases swelled back up to unprecedented heights in recent weeks. (Los Angeles Patch)
  3. The Carlsbad Beach Preservation Commission voted against efforts by Oceanside to construct sand retention devices. Multiple studies since the 1950s have shown that the jetties at the mouth of the harbors built for Camp Pendleton and Oceanside interrupt the flow of coastal sediment to the south.   4. The state wildlife board has granted $3 million for Buena Vista Lagoon restoration. The lagoon that lies between the borders of Oceanside and Carlsbad will transform from a freshwater body to a saltwater lagoon once the restoration is complete. (Coast News)
  5. In April 2017, a woman was attacked by a shark in the waters off San Onofre State Beach near Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. A hero was recently awarded a Medal Of Honor for rescuing 13-year old Encinitas teen after a great white shark attack. The last time a deadly shark occurred in San Diego County was in Solana Beach in 2008. (NBC San Diego)
