  1. It's Film Week in Oceanside and The Oceanside International Film Festival takes place in the heart of the Oceanside California Cultural District. This special opening night brings together two of the key pillars in the Cultural District; OIFF and OMA. This year will feature an Opening Night Screening Event of the 20th Anniversary of the iconic surf film "Blue Crush" with a very special Q&A after the film featuring director John Stockwell with actresses Kate Bosworth, Sanoe Lake and more. 2. A suspect in an armed robbery spree that targeted at least 13 people at a park in Coronado last weekend was taken into custody Friday by gang suppression officers in Oceanside, according to the Oceanside Police Department. Coronado police said Manuel Sebastian Hernandez, 19, pulled off a series of armed robberies at Centennial Park on Feb. 12. The spree began around 10:30 p.m. when Hernandez pulled out a gun and robbed a couple on a bench. (NBC San Diego)
  3. Two people were killed Saturday when their vehicle crashed into a light pole and caught fire on state Route 76, police said. Police responded to calls about a crash of a Dodge SUV at 2:13 a.m. Saturday on SR-76 and Airport Road, according to Sgt. Rick Davis of the Oceanside Police Department. Officers arrived to find the SUV fully engulfed in flames. Oceanside Fire Department crews responded to extinguish the fire and found two occupants in the vehicle dead. There were no witnesses to the crash and the cause was under investigation by the OPD's major accident investigation team, the sergeant said. The names of the dead were being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. (NBC San Diego)
  4. Bread of Life, which merged with the San Diego Rescue Mission in 2020, began offering showers at its Apple Street site last March through Humanity Showers, a nonprofit operated by Vista resident Jordan Verdin. The mission introduced its own four-stall mobile shower, Mobile Shower Ministry, two months ago. As he waited his turn to use the mobile shower, Maurie Rivera anticipated he would feel more than just clean from the experience. "Being able to shower and feel some dignity, it's a great feeling," he said. Rivera, 59, has been homeless since the start of the year and said he is "living among the bushes" in Oceanside. He sees a shower as almost as important as food. ( San Diego Union Tribune)
  5. Catch up on the best feel-good stories from around the state this week. Renée Zellweger and Ant Anstead took a Temecula Wine Country Adventure. Carlsbad woman Colette Garcia wins a new car on 'The Price is Right'. The 11 day Modernism Week Festival kicks off in Palm Springs and more SoCal stories. (Orange County Patch)
