  1. The Oceanside International Film Festival begins Wednesday with a full week of films and special events leading up to the 11th Annual OIFF Award Ceremony on Sunday. Kicking off this year's event is a Red Carpet reception at the Oceanside Museum of Art. 2. O'side Kitchen Collaborative, a food services non-profit today announced it is changing its name to ONE Kitchen Collaborative. The rebranding effort includes a new name, logo, and website to better reflect their growth within the community. 3. Parents of eight Marines and a sailor who drowned off the coast of California in 2020 say they are worn down by a system that is slow to change. After several reports, congressional testimony and a series of hearings at Camp Pendleton to determine whether the leadership will remain in the Marines, Lupita Garcia said she does not feel any closer to justice. "Very loving. Very loving boy. He loved his dad. He loved his sister. He loved me," Garcia said about her son Lance Cpl. Marco Barranco. (KPBS)
  4. A sewage spill in Newport Beach forced the closure Monday of ocean waters from the west end of Newport Bay to 8th Street. The OC Health Care Agency's Environmental Health Division announced the closure Monday morning, noting that approximately 35,000 to 50,000 gallons of sewage leaked into the area due to a blocked sewer line of a restaurant in Newport Bay. The affected area will remain closed to swimming, surfing and diving until the results of follow-up water quality monitoring meet acceptable standards. ( OC Register)
  5. Ocean Kamp, a resort community to be built around an artificial surfing lagoon in the San Luis Rey River valley, is running a few months behind schedule. Oceanside planners have asked for more work on the plan and as a result the construction start has been pushed back, developer Mike Grehl of N4FL Worldwide said in a recent presentation to the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce.
