Oceanside Lifeguards Spot 9-Foot Shark 300 Yards Off Pier
While sharks typically pass through coastal waters without harming beachgoers, officials warned the public of the rare sighting.
OCEANSIDE, CA — A 9-foot shark of an unknown species was spotted wading offshore Sunday about 300 yards away from the Oceanside Pier, the Oceanside Fire Department Lifeguard Division said.
Although shark sightings are rare, the division wrote in a statement, officials alerted the public with signage and made an announcement to those already in the water.
