Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- An Oceanside resident was hospitalized after hitting a pothole while riding his e-scooter without a helmet. Sixty-year-old James Wadsworth was in San Diego near the Sorrento Valley Coaster station when the accident occurred last Friday, and he was found near the pothole unconscious and not breathing. Wadsworth was listed in critical condition on Monday. The recent rains have caused seemingly endless potholes throughout the area and serve as a reminder to be careful and always wear a helmet. (NBC San Diego)
- The Oceanside Parks and Recreation Department approved a new standing committee on equity and fairness in field and facility allocation within the city, after members of the community raised concerns about problems trying to obtain permits for facilities. The committee will look into any unfairness in permits and the fair allocation of the many public spaces throughout the city, which includes fields, facilities, outdoor courts, gymnasiums and aquatic centers. (Coast News)
- A recent Oceanside Adventures cruise was fortunate to encounter a gray whale mother and newborn calf hanging out offshore. According to Captain Chris Fairbanks, this year's whale-watching season is among the best he's ever seen. He "estimated the baby whale was just a few days old, as the fetal folds were still visible."
