Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. An Oceanside mom had the scare of her life on Sunday when a man stole her SUV with her two young children inside. The mother was loading her car in front of her home when a man drove off with the SUV and her kids, according to Jennifer A. Atenza, the public information officer for Oceanside police. The children were found about 20 minutes later and reunited with their mother. A short time later, police spotted the stolen vehicle and arrested the driver, Juan Mendieta, 30, of Oceanside. "Mendieta faces several charges, including two counts of kidnapping, two counts of child endangerment, vehicle theft, resisting arrest and a parole violation hold." (Fox 5 San Diego)
  2. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and this time it's not the gas we put in our cars but the kind that heats our homes. SDG&E sent notices to local customers that the "company's cost per natural gas unit — or therm — spiked from $2.36 to $5.11. Households that had a January gas bill of roughly $105 in 2022 should plan for this month's bill to come in at about $225, according to the company. " It's unclear just how long the price increase will last but customers can request to have their bills averaged out over several months to offset the cost in any single month. (Patch)
  3. Hey, Oceanside foodies! Coomber Craft Wines has a culinary experience lined up for Wednesday that you won't want to miss. This pop-up kitchen event features Chef Eliza Martin, Food Network "Chopped" champion. (Patch)
