But first, today's weather:
Humid with clouds, then sun. High: 75 Low: 64.
Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:
- An arrest was made in the hit-and-run crash that happened on September 18 in Oceanside. "Luis Sandoval, a twenty-eight-year-old Lake Elsinore resident was arrested by Oceanside Police on Friday, September 30. While crossing North Redondo Drive just East of Martin Street a twenty-eight-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling Westbound on Redondo Drive at around 6:30 pm on Sunday, September 18, 2022. The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene. Oceanside officers immediately responded and the patient was transported to the hospital with critical injuries." (FOX 5 San Diego)
- A new mental health resource for veterans and their families opens in Oceanside this week. "Cohen Veterans Network (CVN) opened the new clinic at 3609 Ocean Ranch Blvd, Suite 120, in Oceanside. This effort is another step toward CVN meeting the $275M commitment set forth by financier/philanthropist Steven A. Cohen to help reduce veteran suicide and increase care for active duty service members and military families throughout the country. The close proximity to Camp Pendleton was a key factor in establishing this new clinic." (Subscription/The San Diego Union-Tribune)
- Your blood is needed, Oceanside! The American Red Cross is asking the public to start the fall season off with a lifesaving blood or platelet donation. "While the leaves turn, the need for blood never changes," a Red Cross news release said. "Those who give this fall play an important role in keeping the blood supply high enough to help patients counting on blood products for care — especially ahead of the busy holiday season. Anyone who donates through Oct. 31 will receive a $5 e-gift card by email to a merchant of choice. Red Cross blood drives are taking place across San Diego County. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at a blood drive. Oceanside has four blood drive locations coming up." (Patch)
- Check your cheese! "Federal health regulators warned the public to throw out certain cheeses as they investigate listeria cases that have emerged around the nation. The CDC linked six cases to the outbreak, including one in California. In total, there are products from 25 brands, consumers are being urged to throw out. Old Europe Cheese, Inc. issued a recall on its brie and camembert cheeses because of potential listeria contamination. The recall includes several brands in stores and restaurants throughout California. The impacted products were distributed from Aug. 1 through Wednesday to retailers such as Stop & Shop, Whole Foods and Lidl." (Patch)
