Morning, everybody. It's me, your host of the Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Daily — here to tell you everything that's fit to print about what's happening locally. Today you'll read about:

  • Train service suspended between Orange County and San Diego County
  • Spooktober among events this weekend
  • Active tuberculosis case from a recent transit rider

But first, today's weather:

Low clouds may break. High: 75 Low: 62.

Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Oceanside is temporarily losing Metrolink and Amtrak train service to and from Orange County because of an unstable slope. "Train service between Orange County and San Diego County has been suspended until further notice because of slope movement beneath the seaside tracks at San Clemente. The tracks are San Diego's only viable rail link with Los Angeles and the rest of the United States, and are part of the 350-mile LOSSAN rail corridor from the downtown Union Station to San Luis Obispo on the Central California coast," an announcement on the Metrolink website stated. "Until we have confirmation from the experts the slope movement has stopped, we will not resume Metrolink service." (Subscription/The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  2. Looking for things to do this weekend in Southern California? "Patch has rounded up fun, interesting and entertaining events throughout Southern California — from the southernmost part of San Diego, through Orange and Riverside counties, to the beaches and valleys in Los Angeles. Some are free. Some have a fee. Whether you opt for an activity close to home or a mini day trip, see what's slated this weekend from Saturday, Oct. 1 to Sunday, Oct. 2." Spooktober events are plentiful throughout the region, including local favorites: Bates Pumpkin Festival Craft Fair: Bates Nut Farm, Valley Center. Brick-or-Treat: LEGOLAND California Resort, Carlsbad. Haunted Corn Maze: Carlsbad Strawberry Co., Carlsbad and many more. (Patch)
  3. Missed the local news this week? Here's a look at some of this week's police, fire and courtroom stories from across San Diego County: "An Oceanside man died when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a pickup and guardrail in Valley Center; Michael Anthony Carmichael, 21, of Oceanside pleaded guilty to two felony counts of impersonating an officer and evading arrest; a former El Cajon religious school teacher pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting several young women and underage girls; a one-year-old girl died after being struck in the Castle community of San Diego." (Patch)
  4. Heads up, Oceanside! San Diego County has reported an active tuberculosis case in a recent transit rider. "A passenger using the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) has been diagnosed with infectious pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), according to San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). HHSA is working with Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) officials to notify individuals who were possibly exposed. Riders using routes in the south county between Feb. 16, 2022, and Aug. 16, 2022, were potentially exposed and are at risk for infection. Potentially affected passengers are advised to consult with their medical provider or contact Public Health to arrange testing. (County News Center)
