First, today's weather:

It's TODAY! Oceanside Chamber presents Operation Appreciation at the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater! A day of fun and recognition for all active-duty military and their families as they are treated to a day of free food, entertainment and a fun zone for kids. This event is open to the public, with food and fun zone tickets available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More info

  1. KOCT, The Oceanside Channel, recently interviewed each of the candidates running for the 49th Congressional District for the North County Roundtable Election 2022 Edition. In this second episode, host Alison St John interviews 49th Congressional District Candidate Mike Levin. (Oceanside-Camp Pendleton Patch)
  2. The latest results of the annual homeless census show that Oceanside's unsheltered homeless population significantly increased since 2020. The count this year found Escondido's unsheltered homeless population, which has been the highest in North County for the past few years, decreased by more than 30 percent, while Oceanside's increased by more than 30 percent.   3. A man accused of brandishing a knife at an Oceanside self-storage center and barricading himself in a building Friday morning has been arrested. According to the Oceanside Police Department, an employee of the business in the 4500 block of Oceanside Boulevard reported the presence of the armed man on the premises at about 8 a.m. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
  4. MiraCosta College will have a new vice president of institutional advancement starting June 1. Shannon Stubblefield, who has an extensive background in fundraising and developing community partnerships, joins the Oceanside-based college district after 10 years as chief philanthropy officer for local nonprofit North County Lifeline (northcoastcurrent.com)
  5. A mentally ill man who ambushed and killed his neighbor in an unprovoked shooting outside her Oceanside apartment in 2018 was found guilty Thursday of murder. Eduardo Arriola, 29, was also found to have been lying in wait when he fatally shot Devon Rideout, 24, steps from her front door. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
