Welcome to the start of the holiday weekend! I will be off for the next few days, taking time with family and friends, as I hope all of you are doing, too. I'll be back in your inbox on Tuesday with the most important things happening in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton.
Today's issue includes:

  • Oceanside hires Chandler Asset Management for its investment portfolio.
  • Mayor Sanchez on city's 2023 homelessness plans.
  • County and city offices are closed for the holidays.

But first, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 66 Low: 39.

Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. Oceanside approved an outside firm to manage the city's investments, after months of controversy. The allegations and ongoing drama with the city treasurer and treasury manager were too much for the city council, which "unanimously approved Chandler Asset Management, Inc., of San Diego to manage Oceanside's roughly $500 million investment portfolio." (San Diego Union-Tribune/paywall)
  2. Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez shared her plans to address the homelessness crisis in 2023, along with other area leaders. The consensus among these leaders is that any solution must be regional and focus on city and county goverments working closely with community partners. "We are breaking ground in January 2023 on our 59-unit affordable housing project with wrap-around services. Next spring, we will be opening our 50-bed year-round homeless shelter/navigation center, the first in our city." (Patch)
  3. Just a reminder that most San Diego County offices will be closed over the Christmas holiday. Libraries, animal shelters and COVID-19 vaccination and testing sites will be closed or have limited hours. Police, fire and other essential services will continue throughout the holiday. "County offices will reopen for regular business hours on Tuesday, Dec. 27." (Press Release Desk)
