Happy Monday, everybody! I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening locally. Today we'll cover:

  • Oceanside Balderrama Park shooting suspect arrested.
  • Fire department responds to hazmat spill at a veterinary hospital.
  • Fallbrook shooting kills one and wounds two, suspect in custody.

Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. Oceanside Police made an arrest last week in the investigation of a shooting death that occurred in Balderrama Park on December 9. The suspect is 18- year-old Oceanside resident Joshua Parker who was identified as the shooter and arrested for homicide. The victim was 29-year-old Carlos Gutierrez who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died from his injuries. OPD spokesperson Jennifer Atenza in a news release stated that officers responded to a call of an adult male spray-painting gang graffiti within Balderrama Park. While officers responded, the caller reported numerous gunshots in the area, and a male was down in the street. (ABC 10 News San Diego)
  2. One person is dead and two wounded after a shooting at a plant nursery in Fallbrook on Friday. Police arrested Enrique Barajas Gutierrez as the suspected shooter. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, Gutierrez worked at the nursery and reportedly knew all the victims, including his own daughter. The victim's names are not being released at this time but are said to include a man in his 50s who was pronounced dead, along with a man in his 70s and the suspected shooter's daughter, a woman in her 30s who were hospitalized, but are expected to survive. (Fox 5 San Diego)
  3. The Oceanside Fire Dept. responded to a hazardous material spill at the Mission Animal and Bird Hospital on Friday. OFD received a report that an employee had dropped a vial of Isoflurane, a commonly used general anesthetic that is considered safe for use in small doses but can be toxic in larger quantities. According to the report, one employee was directly exposed through the skin and respiratory tract and another employee became exposed while assisting the exposed employee. The animal hospital was temporarily closed while the ventilation system within the building was shut down to limit the spread of toxic gasses. (ABC 10 News)
