Here are the top stories today in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton:

  1. The Oceanside City Council approved Phase 2 of the Sand Nourishment and Retention Pilot Project at the January 25 meeting. While many locals still support the use of groins to keep sand on Oceanside beaches, Phase 2 will explore innovative sand retention projects through a design competition to attract new ideas to address our coastal erosion. Phase 2 will also seek a local sand source, with consistent sand delivery from around the Camp Pendleton Boat Basin. (Coast News)
  2. The Fin Hotel in downtown Oceanside made the Visit California list of "Best San Diego Beach Hotels for Travelers on a Budget." A favorite for locals on staycation, The Fin has everything you want in a boutique beach hotel, starting with its perfect location just blocks from the beach. The Fin's recently opened KNVS restaurant offers a Korean fusion menu in an immersive art gallery that features local artists. (Visit California)
  3. Camp Pendleton has a unique partnership with the Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services that not only removed 324,980 pounds of batteries from the base but saved the Marine Corps an estimated $117,000 in disposal costs in 2022. "Pendleton continually looks for process improvements and waste minimization efforts to be good environmental stewards," said Bryan Osborn with the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Environmental Security Department. (Marines.mil)
  4. The skydiver from GoJump Oceanside who fell from the sky last Friday, after his parachute failed to completely open, is on his way home after a brief stay in the hospital. Witnesses recall the man screaming as he fell, but despite crashing onto a roof, he did not suffer serious injury. (KABC)
