Here are the top stories in Oceanside-Camp Pendleton today:

  1. An Oceanside police officer was injured when a suspected DUI driver crashed into his patrol vehicle early Tuesday morning. Despite his own injuries, the officer helped rescue the suspect, who was identified as Jonathan Shipp Sr., a 35-year-old resident of Escondido. Both the officer and Shipp were taken to local hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. (City of Oceanside)
  2. Former NFL football player and Oceanside High alumnus Sale Isaia Jr. died last month of a heart attack at the age of 50. Although he was born in Hawaii, the retired lineman grew up in Oceanside and attended UCLA after graduating from OHS. Isaia had been living in Kansas and working as a paraprofessional helping troubled students. He was buried in Oceanside, with local services expected on Dec. 20. "Sale had the biggest heart and was a great son, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed football, video games, and karaoke," the family wrote on the GoFundMe page. (Coast News)
  3. Can you teach an old dog new tricks? The San Diego Humane Society believes you can and is offering free adoptions for older pooches at all of its locations through the end of the year. The Oceanside campus is open for walk-in adoptions Tuesday through Sunday, and you can view available animals on the SDHS website. "Many incoming stray animals have not been reclaimed by their owners and approximately 280 adult dogs are among the 700 animals available for donation." (Patch)
