Oceanside Police Recruiting New Community Service Officers
OPD seeks to hire 30 Community Service Officers to assist in non-sworn responsibilities and assist police on lower-priority service calls.

OCEANSIDE, CA — The Oceanside Police Department recently launched a new Community Service Officer (CSO) career opportunity. The department seeks to hire 30 Community Service Officers for a new program designed to promote the personal and professional development of each CSO.
Community Service Officers hired for this limited-term position will assist in a variety of non-sworn responsibilities and assist police by responding to and investigating lower-priority service calls. This allows police to remain available to answer emergency calls and have more time for proactive enforcement while providing the CSO valuable experience that will help to prepare them for a plethora of public service roles.
Community Service Officers will have the opportunity to experience a variety of assignments across the department. From working alongside patrol officers, responding to crime scenes, to assisting in investigating cases with detectives, the program is designed to create a pipeline of future police officers, dispatchers, forensic technicians, and analysts.

Prospective employees will undergo and must successfully pass a thorough police background investigation which may include a psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, and a medical examination which may entail a drug screening. Successful candidates will possess the equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade or GED, a positive attitude, willingness to work in a team environment, and the ability to exercise patience, tact, discretion, and responsiveness.
