Oceanside Power Outage Affects 700, Causes School Closure

El Camino High School students were sent home early due to the outage.

A power outage left nearly 700 North County addresses without electricity Monday, prompting an area secondary school to let students out early.

The blackout, apparently caused by a digging animal that damaged underground equipment, began around 5:30 a.m. and affected homes and businesses in Oceanside, Ocean Hills and the San Luis Rey neighborhood, San Diego Gas & Electric reported.

El Camino High School students were sent home early due to the problem, according to Oceanside Unified School District officials.

By late morning, crews had restored service to all but two addresses, SDG&E reported. Those customers were expected be be back on line by mid- afternoon.
